| Pitch Book for New Business
A law firm pitch book is frequently required to respond to a "Request for Proposal" (RFP) or to make a presentation to a prospective law firm client. If you are pressed for time, we can help you compile a professional lawyer pitch book. While the contents of the pitch book will vary, standard sections include:
- Law firm introduction and history
- Information on law firm practice groups
- Law firm client list
- Attorney biographies
- Law firm and attorney industry expertise
- Responses to specific questions required by the RFP
Before you turn your attention to writing a voluminous pitch book, spend some time thinking about your strategic approach to serving this prospective new account. Many General Counsels encourage attorneys to schedule a preliminary meeting with the firm prior to writing the pitch book, in an effort to understand the internal and industry challenges being faced by the client. Listen more than you talk during these meetings.
The General Counsel is likely to select a firm on the basis of many factors before price. GCs are frequently willing to pay a high hourly rate if the law firm delivers the right solution and mindset. While corporations are under increasing price pressure, an attorney or law firm who proposes a solution that will avoid protracted litigation or settle an established dispute quickly may help the firm save money, even if their hourly billing rates are high. Look for ways you can partner with your client to achieve mutual success.
